History

The Special Education Center (SEC) was established in 1980, with one director appointed. After the establishment of the Department of Special Education in 1987, the head of the center was concurrently held by the chairperson of the department. Starting in 2007, due to the expansion of services to cover preschool, elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, as well as the center's management of the school's resource room, the position of the center director has been concurrently held by a full-time associate professor or higher-ranking faculty member of the Department of Special Education.

Organization

  1. The center is headed by one director, appointed by the university president from full-time associate professors or higher-ranking faculty members, who oversees all the center's operations.
  2. The center formulates response measures in line with the Ministry of Education's special education policies and actively promotes special education training and policy advocacy. It is responsible for the initial assessment of special education students at higher education institutions within the Tainan-Penghu advisory zone, supports services in universities and colleges in the region, provides individual case counseling, assists with vocational transitions, and offers comprehensive consulting services to enhance the quality and effectiveness of special education support services.
  3. The center operates a special education consultation hotline, providing consulting and services for the southern region.
  4. The center employs two project assistants who manage various administrative tasks.
  5. A resource room is set up in the center, staffed by three resource counselors who focus on supporting and serving students with special needs at the school.

Services

  1. Evaluation and counseling for students with special needs, including admission assistance.
  2. Consultation on laws and issues related to special education.
  3. Discussion and consultation on issues in special education teaching.
  4. Provision and exchange of special education teaching resources.
  5. Consulting for parents of children with special needs.
  6. Consultation and follow-up discussion on special/individual cases.
  7. Continuing Education in Special Education for Professionals.
  8. Other matters related to special education.

Target Groups

Special education teachers, administrative staff, educational care personnel, students with special needs, and their parents from colleges, universities, high schools, junior high schools, elementary schools, and preschools.

Facility

  1. One office, which also houses the consultation hotline.
  2. One test and instructional materials display room.
  3. One resource room, shared with the Special Education Department library.
